Regardless of information provided on this website, or directly from the Elections Office, it is a Candidate's responsibility to ensure that they have complied with the Municipal Elections Act 1996, and any other relevant legislation pertaining to Municipal Elections.

Following are the offices that were contested in 2010:

Mayor: One to be elected by general vote

Councillors: One to be elected for each of the City's 15 Wards

To run for Office you must be:

  • a resident of the City of Hamilton, or an owner or tenant of land in the City of Hamilton, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • at least 18 years old; and
  • not prohibited by any law.

Candidates for School Board Trustee must reside within the Board area and be a supporter of that Board.
